Thoughtful design for outdoor spaces

Sarah Young
Garden Design

Garden design shaped around you and your space

My approach to garden design is thoughtful and collaborative, shaped by the character of the site and the way you want to live in the space. From early concepts through to detailed design, I offer clear guidance and ongoing support as your garden develops over time, working across Berkshire, Wiltshire and Hampshire from my base in Hungerford.

Support can continue beyond the design stage, as your garden grows and changes over time.

Garden design detail

My approach

I work through a clear, collaborative design process, developing ideas together from the first conversation to the final design.

Initial conversation

We begin with a discussion about your garden, your priorities and how you would like the space to feel and function.

Concept design

I develop a design concept that responds to the site, setting and brief, exploring layout, structure and overall atmosphere.

Detailed design

The agreed concept is refined into clear, build-ready drawings and planting plans to guide the next stages.

Ongoing support

Support can continue beyond the design stage, with input during implementation, planting, and as the garden evolves over time.

Design Services

A flexible set of services — from full garden design to planting and aftercare — designed to fit the level of support you need.

Garden design plan

Garden Design

I design both the structural elements of your garden and the soft, naturalistic planting that brings it to life. My approach creates spaces that feel calm and welcoming, with every detail considered to create a garden that feels harmonious, timeless and connected to its surrounding landscape.

Planting design plan

Planting Design

I create planting schemes thoughtfully tailored to your garden’s conditions — including soil type, pH and aspect — and to the character of your home. Each scheme is shaped around your preferred palette and the level of time and engagement you wish to give.

Plant sourcing and planting

Plant Sourcing & Planting

I source high-quality plants from a trusted network of nurseries and growers across the UK. Plants are delivered directly to your garden, ready for planting. I can also set out and position every plant with care — allowing for mature size — and provide full planting support if required.

Ongoing support and aftercare

Ongoing Support & Aftercare

Following the planting of your garden, I can remain involved as it establishes and evolves, offering optional online guidance tailored to the specific plants within your scheme. Through thoughtful, seasonal advice on pruning, feeding and plant health, you’ll gradually develop the confidence and practical skills to care for your own garden — understanding what to cut, when to intervene and how to maintain balance as the planting matures.

A garden over time

An example of a low-maintenance, plant-led gravel garden as it establishes and matures.
