Walled Courtyard Garden

Walled Courtyard Garden

Enclosed by brick walls and closely connected to the house, this space was reshaped to create a classically English courtyard garden designed for both everyday use and relaxed entertaining.

Before the redesign, the area lacked clear structure and definition. The levels were unresolved, and there was little sense of connection between house and garden.

Gentle terracing now brings order to the space, forming natural seating areas and shaping the transition between house and lawn. Brick retaining walls reflect the character of the house and tie the garden back to the architecture, while a simple stone trough provides a quiet focal point at its centre.

Planting softens the framework, combining clipped forms with looser layers to give depth and seasonal interest. What was once an undefined area now feels comfortable and easy to use — a garden designed for gathering and everyday enjoyment.
